Education - A tool of Women Empowerment

Women Empowerment

Education is a weapon to eradicate the social evil from the society. Educating women means not only to provide the schooling facility to the women, but to teach them for their knowledge and enhance their personality. Through education, we can reduce the poverty and improve the livelihood. In India, maternal death rate is 437 per 100,000 live births that are mainly caused due to the lack of knowledge in healthcare. Empowerment of women is necessary so that the women can save themselves from the disease like anemia, hepatitis, jaundice, etc. Most of the pregnant women die because of the anemia, infection in the uterus, hemorrhage or obstructed labor. Educated women can prevent these diseases by maintaining hygiene, taking proper nutrition at the time of pregnancy. They can also take good care of their children by providing them best nutrients to fight against the ill health.

According to the survey done in the year 2001, the female literacy rate is 46.4% and 69% of male. About 82.14% of the adult men are literate in India while only 65.46% of adult women are counted under the educated list. Through education, women get confidence and courage to fight against the discrimination such as gender inequality, female feticide, dowry demand, early marriages and many other offences that women are facing every day. Uttar Pradesh police started women helpline service known as Women Power Line for the protection of distress women. Every day WPL members attend more than 50 calls from the teen girls because their parents forced them to get married in the early age. The members of WPL fight effectively against the crime. They spread awareness among the women to fight for their rights and not tolerate any violence or harassment. Women Power Line aim is to empowering women so that they can raise their voice against the unsocial behavior happening in their surrounding without ignoring them. They also educate the rural women and provide the safety tips like always keep the main door closed construct the window grills embedded in the cement work, take care of valuable items such as mobile phones, purses, etc. They also advise the rural women to make proper sanitation near the house because most of the women faced offense while going to the toilet away from the house. Proper sanitation is necessary for maintaining the personal, as well as environmental hygiene and health.

Educated women can earn and help in reducing the poverty rate. It also helps in boosting the economic growth of the country. An educated woman wants her daughter to be educated and employed, and thus the cycle continues. According to the survey, more than 90% of female workers experience the harassment at the workplace. About 49% of the women have experienced the unwanted sexual proposal or attention. The crime in our society is increasing because the victims ignore the violence and humiliation they face, instead of fighting against it. Communities never support the victim, and thus they feel fear fighting against the offence. Women are always advised to ignore and keep it to them. Women Power Line educates the girls and women to fight against the harassment and violence so that the criminals do not even think to attempt such offences. The members of WPL provide a helpline number 1090 to the women of Uttar Pradesh, which is a one-state number, to register the complaint immediately whenever they face crime. The Women Power Line number provides immediate help the victim at the time of emergency.
