Women Empowerment through Employment Opportunities

Women Empowerment

Empowering women economically are necessary for the sustainable growth of the country. Women face many challenges in several areas like employment, property rights and education. No doubt, women have contributed a lot in every field and made our nation feel proud many times, but still they are lagging behind with respect to the men. The gender inequality creates a wide gap between men and women, which leads to less participation of women in the workplace. The gender bias is starts from the birth, which results in the decreasing sex ratio. In India, the sex ratio is 100 females for every 108 males. The difference showing in the sex ratio is because of the female foeticide. If we see, all the evils of the society are related to each other. The lack of knowledge and education is the cause of the backwardness of the people. We need to focus on these social evils of the society for the women empowerment. An educated woman can earn, take proper care of her family and teach her children. According to the Census of India 2011, the literacy rate of the female is 65.46 whereas men are 82.14. In the rural areas of India, girls do not get the higher education and get married in the early age.

According to the Census 2011, 25.51% of women are at the workplace out of the 39.79% workers of the total population. In the rural sector, many women are working in the home-based industries, like agarbatti making, weaving, stitching clothes, making handicrafts, etc. About one-third of the women are working in the agriculture field, but they get 30% lesser wages as compared to the men.

In cities, women are highly willing for the job opportunities, want to live an independent life, and they can work outside the house. Women of urban sector do not wish to depend on the men for any problem. It is also true, working women are at a higher risk of humiliation, molestation, violence, etc. Every day a large number of women are facing the offence like rape, eve-teasing while coming from the workplace in the evening. Sometimes, women are molested and harassed at the workplace as well. The lack of strict government rules is responsible for the crime against women is increasing day by day. Women Power Line 1090, started by the government of Uttar Pradesh to provide a practical solution so that the accused boy can be immediately warned and punished. Women Power Line counselor warns the accused boy to stop the harassment forthwith. If the boy does not prevent harassment against women, the police department does not issue any legal certificate like passport, driving license, etc. in which verification of police is mandatory.

Our society feels, women are the weak and inferior element of the earth and do not raise voice on the offence against women. Women tolerate the humiliation and violence silently that is responsible for increasing violence in the society. We need to empower women so that they can bravely fight for their rights and the unsocial behavior against them. WomenPower Line encourages those women who fight for their rights and crimes against them. Women, who are harassed, molested and need help; they can make the complaint against the offence. The members of WPL will immediately take action against the violence and harassment to provide better protection to the women. Women can make the complaint without disclosing their name, and can sort out their problems without coming to the police station just by dialing the number 1090. The helpline number 1090 provided by the super cops of Uttar Pradesh is a one state number for the protection of women so they can live their life without any fear.

Beneficial Elements of Women Power Line 1090

Women Power Line 1090

From centuries, women have been tolerating and suffering the violence and crime against them. Every day about thousands of complaint is reported for the crime against the women. The lack of strict government action against the offense is responsible for the increasing violence in the country. In the Indian society, women suffer the humiliation and violence both inside and outside the house. Therefore, the Uttar Pradesh police have started a service, Women Power Line 1090 to help the women and girls who are harassed by eve-teasers, stalkers, abusive, and vulgar callers.

The Women Power Line is a 24*7 service and provides protection to the women whenever they need. The victims can dial 1090 Women Power Line number to register a complaint, and the members of WPL will immediately take action for providing safety of a woman. The four-digit number (1090) is the best thing in WPL service, so at the time of emergency one can easily remember and dial even in the haste. In every police station, the policemen ask to report F.I.R. from the victim to proceeds the case ahead. After registering the complaint by a woman, police take legal action and involve court for a judicial proceeding of the case, making it so lengthy process. To avoid all these legal action Women Power Line has started the service for providing an immediate justice to the victim. The victim does not need any F.I.R. or formal written complaint to the crime like harassment. Crime like eve-teasing, stalking, molestation is the social menace and not a criminal offense. So, these cases are to be dealt in such a way that people feel fear for attempting any crime against women.

Whenever any girl and women suffer from the humiliation or violence against them, she tolerates and ignores it. The orthodox beliefs of our society believe that these issues are common with the females. Therefore, they advise women to ignore and not to share with anyone. Most of the parents advise their daughter to avoid teasing of boys and never indulge in their arguments. Thus, girls and women tolerate the harassment and ignore the crime against them instead of fighting. The parents should teach their daughter to fight against the offense instead of silently ignoring them. Ignorance and fear of the victim are the cause of the increasing heinous crimes in the society.

People do not want to involve in police and court cases, so it is advised to girls and women to ignore the offence. Women Power Line is designed focusing all these points so that women can seek help without disclosing their identity, even to the parents of the victim. The members of WPL do not call the victims to the police station. They deal with the victim through the telephone and keep posted their work progress to the victim concerning their registered complaint. The most of the members of the WPL are the female member so that women can feel comfortable while sharing their problem to the female counselors. The Women Power Line service is for the women by the women. Uttar Pradesh police had gifted the Women Power Line 1090 number for making them more secure and safe outside the house as well as inside the house.

1090 – Protection for women from Domestic violence

Empowerment of Women

Domestic violence against women is not a new issue; it is a common and every old phenomenon that women are tolerating silently. Women are always exploited and considered vulnerable. Due to the patriarchal system of India, male always oppress them and therefore they become the victim of physical violence, emotional abuse, sexual assault, etc. Although the image of women are portrayed with the Goddess Durga and Laxmi, but still they are facing the torture in the society. The victim of domestic violence is not person specific; it can be anyone, children, women, and aged group of people, disabled, or any other vulnerable people. The violence against women manifests in different forms like female foeticide, child marriage, honour-killing, physical aggression like hitting, sexual abuse, stalking, etc.

There are many reasons for the unsocial behavior of men that women have to face. Drug addiction is one of the main reasons for the violent behavior of men against women and children. Sometimes poverty becomes the reason, men became aggressive and violent when they unable to full fill the requirement of family and it leads to the domestic violence against women.

According to the survey, the victims of domestic violence are mainly from the rural areas. However, many report that shows, the evil practice of domestic violence in cities and metros is also not less. Nearly 70% of married women between the age of 15 and 49 years had faced rape in India. Women suffer humiliation and molestation in many fields. Still in the 21st century they are not considered equal to men and discriminated in many ways. According to the survey of UN Development Program, every year about 430 to 450 female fetuses is aborted. The result of female feticide leads to the decline in the sex ratio. Women face many challenges, like violence, harassment, and torture not only inside the house but also outside the house. The evil practice of domestic violence results in many adverse effects. Women attempt suicide, use drugs, exhibit violent behaviors, etc.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the first Indian leader who raised his voice for the women's rights. Many changes were done in the society because of the effective approach taken by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. The Child marriage, Sati practice was abolished, and widow women were encouraged for the remarriage. In India, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand are the chief states where women are the worst sufferers of the domestic violence. Many women are mercilessly burnt in the name of dowry demand, killed in honour-killing and many other offences which became the headline of the daily newspaper. We need to raise voice against the unsocial behavior that women are facing every day. UP police had taken the initiative and started WPL service for the empowerment of women and protect them from the crime. They educate women to use the modern technology and avail the WPL service at the time of emergency. The women can dial the number 1090, or use Shakti app, or message in WhatsApp to lodge their complaint. WPL member's counsel the victim and ensures them they are safe and secure. 1090 Women Power Line service has only women constable who attends the call of women and girls, so they can easily share their problems without any hesitation. UP police effectively deal with the harassment against women and also contribute to the women empowerment.

Women Empowerment

Entrepreneurship is an effective and innovative process, which generates employment opportunities and makes a better society. When women start enterprise, it boosts not only the economic growth of the country but also bring many favorable outcomes. First, prime minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru has said, "When a woman moves forward, the family moves, and the village moves, and the nation moves". Out of total entrepreneurs in India about 10% of entrepreneurship is comprised by the women entrepreneur.

Women always work hard, and they never give up. When a woman is economically empowered, they are:

- More confident

- Economic independence
- Self-motivated

Rural women can establish small scale business so that they become self-dependent and self-reliance. Women can start a business like bakery, laundry service, agarbati, jewelry, and pappad making. Establishment of the micro enterprise by the women is an effective tool for the economic and social development of the society. It provides employment to the number of women. Micro-enterprise is beneficial for the rural women so that they provide a better livelihood for their family. The primary aim of micro-enterprise is to alleviate poverty and provide employment, as well as engagement of women and poor people. While starting a business, woman faces not only the business hurdles but also the problems that are unique to women entrepreneurs. One of the main challenges that women face is the sociocultural barriers. Women's family is sometimes not supportive and makes many obligations that make women de-motivated. The family member should encourage women so that they can efficiently manage the home and business in a balanced way.

In India, many women are illiterate that results in the lack of interest and motivation to start a business. Educated women are self-motivated and bravely accept the responsibilities as well as risk. It is also true, India is a male dominated society and women are not treated as equal to men. Women face tremendous hurdles when they start their enterprise and sometimes they became the victim of violence. In a survey, it is observed that women became the victim of domestic violence because they earn more than their husband.
