Women Empowerment is an Essential Tool to get the Goal of Development

Women Empowerment

Women empowerment means the creation of a society where women can feel independent and equivalents to men in every field. Discrimination between women and men creates a perception that women are weaker and can't live alone without the support of men. But, women have potential, and their initiative step can change the current status of the society. If women are empowered with the knowledge, they will fully participate in the decision- making and development process at all levels.

Education is the key to the social and economic development. Educated women have the chance for healthier and happier life. When women are educated, they prefer to marry at a later age and have fewer children. An educated woman is more self-confident, knowledge, skills and she wants to be a better parent, women and citizen of a country. According to the survey of United Nations Organization, the under-five mortality rates of India have dropped by 49% between the year 1990 and 2013. Hence, we can say educated women take proper care of their own as well as their family's health issue. By educating women, we can reduce the infant mortality rate and improve the demographic condition of the country. We can also reduce the orthodox thinking of the society through education and knowledge so that women can come forward and actively participate in the development of the country.

When women are economically empowered, they change their economic status as well as the countries in which they live. Economically empowered women generate income and reduce the poverty of the nation. When a woman has money in her hands, husband does not dare to raise his hands on a woman. Therefore, primary as well as higher education is necessary, which will enable the women to earn and become independent. Economically empowered women can participate in the development agendas. At the decision-making level, empowered women can participate in economic decision-making. Therefore, a country can get the benefits from the decision made by women.

Empowerment of women is necessary so that they can boldly protest against the violence that makes them feel harassed and molested. Uttar Pradesh police started women helpline service known as Women Power Line for the protection of distress women. The members of the Women Power Line ensure that the women and teen girls feel more safe and secure. The aim of the Women Power Line is to empower women and generate confidence among them to fight for their rights. Women and girls who are being harassed and facing the problem of crank calls, vulgar messages can immediately seek help from the WPL service. The victims can call to the 1090 Women Power Line number for the help. There is no need for reporting F.I.R., and the most important thing the identity of the women is not disclosed. The members of the WPL assist the victim through the telephone and update their progress to the victim concerning complaints. Since WPL service provide immediate help to the harassed women. Hence, many people are appreciating the work of Women Power Line 1090 and have been the great success in the Uttar Pradesh.

Women Empowerment to improve the Equality of Career Opportunities for Women

Women Empowerment

Today many women are actively participating in the workforce. With their sincerity and hard work, they are proving themselves in every sector of professions. Women are considered to be more efficient, honest and meticulous. Hence, many organizations prefer hiring female for better performance and results.

The participation of women at the workplace in rural areas is more than the urban areas. But, in rural India most of the women get the fewer wages than men. According to the 1991 World Bank Report, about 55% to 66% of the total women’s labors are contributed in the farm production. About 94% of women are involved in the dairy production in India.

Though the female literacy rate is increasing than male literacy rate in India still, many girls are uneducated in rural areas. We need to encourage rural women and girls for education in order to improve the career opportunities. According to the 1998 report of the U.S. Department of commerce, the main obstacles to female education in India are the lack of schools and colleges facilities (such as sanitation facilities), shortage of female teachers, etc. Educated women establish small scale business so that they become self-dependent and self-reliance. Establishment of the microenterprise by the women is an effective tool for the economic and social development of the society. It provides employment to the number of women. Micro-enterprise is beneficial for the rural women so that they provide a better livelihood for their family.

There are many career opportunities for rural women like sewing clothes, handicrafts, carpet making, etc. One of the famous female business success stories is the Shri Mahila Udyog Lijat Papad. The seaweed farming is the best option of generating income for the women of coastal areas. Without spending much money one can start the seaweed farming. Fishing is a popular traditional industry of rural coastal India which can start easily. Another career opportunity for the rural coastal women are the selling of coconut and coconut products (like coconut oil, milk, cream, sweets, coconut shell charcoal, etc.)

Working women have to face so many challenges in the workplace as well as in the home. One of the main problems is the socio-cultural barriers. Women's family is sometimes not supportive and makes many obligations that make women de-motivated. The family member should encourage women so that they can efficiently manage the home and business in a balanced way. Many researchers have concluded that women became the victim of domestic violence because they earn more than their husband. Therefore, the Uttar Pradesh police started the 1090 Women Power Line service to answer all the criminal problems occurring in the modern Indian society. The Women Power Line empowers women so that they boldly fight for their rights without tolerating the offenses. Any women or teen girls suffering from the unsocial behavior can immediately inform to the WPL members by dialing the 1090 toll-free number. The members of the WPL do not call the victim to the police station in any case. The victim does not need to write any formal letter or F.I.R. to file a complaint. With an anonymous identity, women and teen girls lodge their complaint. The WPL ensures an immediate safety of women and also maintain the dignity of the women. The calls of the victim are attended by the female constables so that women and girls frankly speak their problem. The 24*7 service of Women Power Line is providing strength to the women and girls. The Women Power Line 1090 is becoming popular among women and girls and also appreciated by many people.

Societal Development is a Tool for Women Empowerment

Women Empowerment

Women are an important part in our society, and empowerment of women is must for the social, economical, and political development of the society. According to the survey, the women contribute 75% in the development of the society, whereas men contribute only 25%, although the population of female in our country is low as compared to the men. Unfortunately, even the women and girls have praiseworthy role in society, still they are being neglected.

Empowerment of women through social development

The women and girls are deprived of their basic rights because of the social barrier of the Indian society. Many girls do not able to receive the primary education because people consider daughters as a liability. Parents engage their daughters in the household work or the agricultural work. In our society, many girls are forced by their parents to get married at an early age. According to the traditional belief, if a marriage of a girl is not done at the early age, people consider as a failure of the parents. Many people marry their daughters at an early age in order to maintain their status in the community.

A lot of families deter their daughter-in-law from working outside the house. A Certain mass of people believes that after marriage women should engage in the household work and take care of the family due to their orthodox thinking. There is a great initiative towards empowering women, the Uttar Pradesh police started the Women Power Line 1090 for the safety of troubled or harassed women.

Political Empowerment

Involvements of women in the politics provides a governance benefit, but if the existing data will be referenced, then only 9% of the seats are occupied by the women in the parliament. Female political leaders even contributed at the high level towards the growth of the nation than the male counterparts. We need to extend our help and support to women. Therefore, women can actively participate in the political development of our society, which will set a milestone for next generation.

Technological Empowerment

We need to encourage women for using the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in the proper way. Using ICT, women can broaden the scope of their activities since more than 80% of women are working in the rural sector. The working women of the rural sector are mostly engaged in economic activities like sewing, weaving, handicrafts, etc. The women of a rural sector should expose to modern technology so that they can get benefit in their handicraft markets. The members of the WPL educate the rural women for using the mobile phones; internet, etc. so at the time of emergency women can contact the WPL.

Empowerment through economic development

Empowerment of women is necessary for the economic development of the country. Therefore, we should encourage and empower women to earn so that they can improve their livelihood with their income. Women have the right to live an independent life as well. In the cities, women are highly willing for the job opportunities, and they can work outside the house. The gender inequality creates a wide cap between men and women, which leads to less participation of women in the workplace. Women get less wage than the men in many workplaces. At the time of promotion, men get the more preference, than the women. The reason behind the hindrance to the development of the country is the difference between men and women.

Sometimes, women are molested and harassed at the workplace also. The lack of strict government rules is responsible for the crime against women. Therefore, Women Power Line 1090 provides a practical solution so that the accused boy can be immediately warned and punished. In every police station, the victim has to register the F.I.R. for the further process of the police department, but WPL does not need any formal letters. The success rate of the Women Power Line is 99%, whereas the conviction rate in the courts is only 4%. WPL do not involve court in solving the cases of harassment and provide immediate help to the victim.

Strategies for Enhancing Rural Women’s Empowerment

Empowerment of Women

The world would not be complete without the contribution of women. Women have an important role in social, economic and cultural development of the nation. Very magnificently, women have carried the position of the mother, wife, sister, etc. Today's urban women are more confident. The women in urban areas have more opportunities and advantage, then the women residing in the rural sectors. The rural women are unable to get the proper nutrition, better education, employment, and other basic needs.

Many women do not get the proper nutrition, especially during the pregnancy and lactation period. The lack of food and nutrition not only affects an individual, but also affects the society. Women empowerment is necessary so that the women can understand the importance of proper intake of food and proper hygiene. We need to empower women with the knowledge of prenatal care, breastfeeding, and vaccination of the newborn baby so that the women and infants will stay healthy.

Education is a weapon to eradicate the social evil from the society. Educating women mean not only to provide the schooling facility for the women, but to teach them for their knowledge and enhance their personality. Through education, we can reduce the poverty and improve the livelihood of the women. According to the survey done in the year 2001, the female literacy rate is 46.4% and 69% of male. About 82.14% of the adult men are literate in India while only 65.46% of adult women count under the educated list. Through education, women get the confidence and courage to fight against the discrimination such as gender inequality, female feticide, dowry demand, early marriages and many other offenses that women are facing every day. The Uttar Pradesh police started women helpline service known as Women Power Line for the protection of distress women. The members of the WPL spread awareness among the women to fight for their rights and not to tolerate any violence or harassment. The Women Power Line educate the rural women and provide the safety tips like always keep the main door closed, construct the window grills embedded in the cement work, take care of valuable items such as mobile phones, purses, etc. The members of the WPL also advise the rural women to make proper sanitation near the house because most of the women faced offense while going to the toilet away from the house. Good sanitation is necessary for maintaining the personal, as well as environmental hygiene and health.

Educated women can earn and help in reducing the poverty rate. It also helps in boosting the economic growth of the country. An educated woman wants her daughter to be educated and employed. Empowering women in terms of financial education, information and technology are compulsory in the present modern world. Women and girls have less interest in the financial issues because of the lack of the financial knowledge. We need to provide the financial education to women and girls so that they can effectively manage their families and take confidently financial decisions. We need to encourage women for using the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tools in the proper way. The information and technology provide many opportunities to the women for their development. The telecommunication technology is widely developed in most of the rural areas; still many rural women do not know how to use the mobile phones. The members of WPL educate the rural women for using the mobile phones so that the women and teen girls can contact the police at the time of emergency.

The rural women can establish small scale business to become self-dependent and self-reliance. Establishment of the micro enterprise by the women is an effective tool for the economic and social development of the society. Women can start a business like bakery, laundry service, agarbati, jewelry, and papad making. Women face tremendous hurdles when they start their enterprise and sometimes the women became the victim of violence. According to the research, women become the victim of domestic violence because they earn more than their husband. The harassed women can immediately seek help from WPL service. WPL encourage those women who fight for their rights and provide full protection to them. One can dial 1090 number from any part of the Uttar Pradesh to avail the efficient service of women empowerment. The Women Power Line creates awareness for the women empowerment and provides protection to the women and girls at the time of emergency.

Women Empowerment

Women Empowerment means the creation of a society where women can feel independent and equivalents to men in every field. Women should strong enough to defend themselves from any situation whenever needed. They need to be powerful enough that they can smartly handle the situation at the time of emergency that any molester, eve teaser or rapist can't harm them.

For the better security of women, Uttar Pradesh police had given a Women Power Line number for helping women in distress. Women can register a complaint against fake and annoying calls, awful SMSes, MMSes, web-based provocations and harassment in public places. They can take an action against internet based harassment like making a fake profile in their name and posting their pictures without their consent. Many women in the rural areas are suffering from the torture, humiliation, and domestic violence. They are silently tolerating the crime.
